What is an inventory of emissions
An Inventory of direct and indirect emissions of greenhouse gases is the way to quantify the sources of GHG emissions in a company, event, process, unit, product, country, activity or area.
The preparation of this inventory can be based on procedures and practices recommended by protocols (GHG Protocol) and standards (ISO 14064).
The inventories are divided into three areas according to the activities of which are classified each source of emissions:
- The scope 1 is called Direct GHG Emissions: it express all sources of emissions from activities that are owned or controlled by the company or event
- The scope is called 2 Indirect GHG Emissions: the GHG emissions associated with energy which are measured in energy consumption, heat or steam consumed by businesses or events generated by another organization.
- Scope 3 is called Indirect GHG Emissions: GHG emissions related to outsourced services, or activities indirectly related to that event or that have any relevance to the issue of GHG's.
This amount of tonnes of carbon dioxid is subsequently reversed in a total number of trees. This calculation is based on a study conducted by the SOS Atlantic Forest Foundation and ESALQ – USP.
